Well, it's Friday and we made it up to my son's house. The fall color was nice but really muted by the fact that it was dark and dreary with a hazy overcast all the way up north.
Rant ahead:
I'm having issues with my Nook HD+ which I've had for nearly a year with no problems whatsoever. For some reason when I tried to use it in the car it wouldn't turn on, as if the battery were dead (which it shouldn't have been, but sometimes I think it gets jostled around in my purse, even though it is in a soft case, I think it bumps the on button and turns itself on draining the battery.) It wouldn't charge in the car, but it did charge okay when we got to B's house.
BUT, when I turned it on the after it had charged, the Nook had me open my account, put in time zone, etc., just like it was new. It's almost like it was reset. I noticed that a lot of my books, files, pictures, etc were gone. I was freaking out! Then I found all my B&N content was still there, but books I had downloaded from other sellers, or already had on my computer, fanfic, etc., that I had downloaded from my computer was not there. My d-i-l wondered if B&N had done an update that removed all outside content. I'd heard of this happening with Kindles before, but not with the Nook. I messed around with it for quite awhile and after rebooting it a couple of times, I found all my books and fanfic were now there, but noticed that the B&N content was all stored in the cloud which I could download back onto my device, but that's not where it was before it was on the HD. I also found that all the things I had saved on my SD card were gone, pictures and some books and fanfic I had saved to there rather than on the HD of the nook. Even if the Nook got reset, it shouldn't have wiped the SD card, should it?
It's not like I don't have this stuff saved on my laptop, but it is extremely annoying to have to re-download pics and stuff and reorganize it all again. (I'd had a lot of the books divided onto separate 'shelves' by either category, such as fanfic, or by specific author if I had whole series by certain authors so they were easy to find.)
Anyway enough of that, the grandkids are cuties, although baby M was a bit shy and stand-offish at first. 3 year old T was fine and spent most of the night sitting on my lap showing me how he plays video games on his kindle (yes, a 3 ½ year old with his own kindle boggles my mind—it was originally his mom's but she got a Kindle fire and passed this on to him.) My son and wife are leaving tomorrow afternoon to head out for an overnight get-away for their anniversary. So we had tonight and then tomorrow morning for the kids to get used to us again. (We don't get to see them that often, just every few months). Oh and there is an adorable new grand-puppy, Pixar (Pix or Pixie for short) a 12 week old bull mastiff pup. Should be an interesting weekend, hey? :)

Date: 2013-10-05 03:13 pm (UTC)As far as visiting more often, it's not that we're not welcome to visit more often, as a problem of logistics and timing. They live about a three hour drive away, so it's not like we can just pop in for a quick visit. It involves planning a whole weekend, coordinating everyones schedules, are they free, are we free, etc. Plus we have other kids too who are scattered around the state, so taking turns visting each family takes time and planning. Plus right now M is just at that stranger phobia stage, fortunately for us, it didn't take her too long to warm up to us.
