I am finally posting the fic I wrote for the last sshg_giftfest back in 2019 to AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/33644014/chapters/83606734. two chapters are up and I will have the remaining three up within the next several days. It is of course already posted fully at https://sshg-giftfest.livejournal.com/96358.html, and I will eventually get it up over at ff.net. It was written for [livejournal.com profile] dreamy_dragon73 and the title is Charitable Endeavours.

Dreamy's prompt was: Lucius decides to go into politics. Severus thinks this is a really bad idea and ropes in Hermione to help dissuade Lucius. Does she agree? And do they succeed? It was a fun prompt to work with, so kudos to Dreamy for such an inspiring prompt and also huge hugs and thanks go to my lovely cheerleader [livejournal.com profile] morethansirius, and my amazing beta and sshg_giftfest mod [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith.

As usual, I had meant to get this posted long ago, but at times I should be called the great procrastinator. LOL!

Well the first month of 2019 is already gone, where it went I'm not sure because it feels like it was just the new year a few days back. LOL! I've promised myself that I'm going to try to post a bit more often. Looking back on last year I can see I had a grand total of five posts. That doesn't mean I'm not here, I do lurk and read friends posts and comment occasionally, but I need to post a bit more so I'm going to try. Not every week probably but I will definitely try to post more often.

I can now claim my sshg_giftfest story, The Bonds That Tie Us, written for [livejournal.com profile] iqeret.

Title: The Bonds That Tie Us
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] madeleone
Pairing: Severus/Hermione, Harry/Luna, Ron/Pansy,
Rating: M
Word Count/Art Medium/Craft Material: 32,264
Content: romance, humor, smut, hints at a possible 3-some,
Disclaimer: All recognizable characters belong to JK Rowling and associates. No copyright infringement intended.
Summary: In a fit of anger and frustration Hermione resigns from her position as a department head at the Ministry of Magic. The problem is, in a very un-Hermione-like move, she has absolutely no plan for what comes next, except for this niggling idea that she simply must find Severus Snape.

Many, many thanks to my fantastic beta [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith, she really makes my ramblings readable, and she's an angel with more patience than I deserve.

I will be posting at AO3 and probably FF.net, but first I have to post last years (2017) fic fro the giftfest: The Benefits of Eavesdropping on Hermione Granger. ,written for [livejournal.com profile] azalea_nymph. LOL! Yes I just realized that I had not posted it elsewhere, procrastinator that I am. So I will post that one first and then the most recent one.

I'll post again soon with an update on RL stuff.

So I can now claim my fic at the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest written for [livejournal.com profile] azalea_nymph, titled The Benefits of Eavesdropping on Hermione Granger. Her prompt that I chose was: Hermione has HAD it! whatever it is that she's had, it's put her on a rampage (relationship fallout? bad luck on a job? chauvinistic tomfoolery?). She's fed up and ends up trying to take it out on Snape, who then unloads on her the trials of being (headmaster? school teacher? general git?). They go out for drinks to drown their woes and end up in a surprising situation (his place? her place? hay bale? random hotel?) It can end there, but would really like some fluffy romance rolled in to soften the explosions.

Huge, huge thanks go to my awesome beta, [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith. She is always willing to help even at the last minute (which is usually me coming in on extension). My fics are so much better for her input, and she repairs my dismal comma sense which always puts them where they shouldn't be and doesn't put them where they should. Thanks again for everything you do, deary. I should also mention, that she is also a mod of the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest, along with [livejournal.com profile] dreamy_dragon73 so thanks to them both because without them we wouldn't have this wonderful fest.

The fest was great this year with a large cast of authors, artists and crafters taking part, if you haven't checked it out yet your should. ;)

Recipient azalea_nymph (aka Dena Gray)
Title: The Benefits of Eavesdropping on Hermione Granger
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] madeleone
Pairing: Severus/Hermione
Rating: Mature
Word Count: ~17,678
Content: Foul Language, Explicit Sex, Fluff. (Is there a category for foul mouthed, smutty fluff?) ;-)
Disclaimer: All recognizable characters belong to JK Rowling and associates. No copyright infringement intended.
Summary: He hadn't been eavesdropping! No matter what she said, he really hadn't. He'd been minding his own business, having a pleasant afternoon reading in the park. He couldn't help but overhear Granger and her ex-beau arguing, they weren't exactly quiet. He'd found it all very amusing, until it wasn't, and thus in a blink of an eye, the course of his life changed. Who'd have thought there would be benefits to eavesdropping on Hermione Granger—not that he'd been eavesdropping, of course!
Author's Note: A huge, huge thanks goes to my wonderful beta, D. She is a miracle worker, and without her help, I'm sure this fic would barely be readable. Also to my giftee, Azalea_Nymph: thank you so much for the fabulous prompts, I had a hard time deciding—they were all so good. I do hope you like the results. I will admit I originally had something a little different planned for these two, but the characters had their own ideas of how the story should go. (They are stubborn that way sometimes!

The deadline for sign-ups and prompting has been extended to September 2nd, so if you were considering in joining the fun you still have time!

The giftfest still has open sign-ups for both authors and artists/crafters. Some truly awesome fanfic and fanart have come out of this fest in the past. It looks like sign-ups have been a little slow this year, so if you've been thinking about it please consider joining in the fun. Pop on over here and here to take a look at some of the great prompts offerered so far.

So, I can now admit to writing for Besieging Miss Granger for [livejournal.com profile] krissy_cits. The original prompt was: Hermione keeps bumping into Severus Snape, and she starts to wonder if it is REALLY coincidental or not.

I will admit I set out to write a much different story. I'd expected it to be a short 4 to 5k fluffy fic about Severus having a crush on Hermione but unwilling to reveal his feelings. Somehow along the way, that morphed into a mystery/stalker fic--at least Severus wasn't her stalker. Sometimes I hate it when plot bunnies escape their cage and go haring off on their own. :-) I'd like to thank my totally awesome beta [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith for her patience and amazing beta skills. She's a real peach.

I've enjoyed all of the great fic and art created for this fest. There are still a few fics I've not had a chance to read yet, but I will soon. I must say it all was excellent and I am in awe of the talent we harbor here in our little corner of the fandom. Many, many thanks to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest mods [livejournal.com profile] delphipsmith and [livejournal.com profile] dreamy_dragon73 for all they do to keep the fest going.

ETA:I almost forgot to mention that the background for this fic, Logralo's, the business shared by Luna, Hermione, and Neville, originally appeared in in a short ficlet titled Phoenix Feathers at Dusk that I wrote way back in 2009 when I was just trying out my fanfic wings. It was posted over at hpcon_envy in response to a prompt by bambu345. It's also at ff.net (where I post as magalena). It's certainly not necessary to read it before Besieging Miss Granger, but it shows how Logralo's got started. I always thought it would be fun to expand into that universe a bit so I had fun with it here.

WooHoo! My gift The Best Laid Plans was posted today over at the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest and a lovely one it is! My mystery author combined several of my prompts into one sweet, funny, smutty tale. Check it out here:

Recipient madeleone
Title:The Best Laid Plans
Author: Anon
Pairing: Severus/Hermione
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 8,560 +/-
Content: Smut abounds! I took the liberty of diving right into an established friendship without much back explanation, I hope that’s okay. Post-war AU where Severus lives.
Disclaimer: All recognizable characters belong to JK Rowling and associates. No copyright infringement intended.
Summary: No one ever said making plans was Harry’s strong suit.

As I said in my comment at giftfest: Dear MA, thank you so much. This was perfect, you've checked all my boxes: it's a cute, funny, smutty, sexy romp, with a happy ending. Who could ever ask for more.  ;-)

I'm so happy that this fest is happening again this year. Although I won't be able to participate as a writer, because we won't be home from our trip until Oct 18th I know know I couldn't pull anything together in time. But I promise to read and look and oooh and aaahh over all the wonderful entries.

I've finally got around to posting my [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest story, The Librarian, at both AO3 and FF.net. and will likely post to a couple of other archives soon.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having issues with ff.net's review response system (which doesn't let you repy in the reviews online, but links you to send the commentor an email message). I keep getting emails with new reviews, but when I try to click on the review response link it goes to a page that says 'we cannot find the review you are replying to'. And on the site if I click on the reviews it says I have x-number of reviews but it only shows the first eight reviews, which are from the first two days I posted. The rest of the reviews that I received email notifcation of aren't there. I know it must be something wonky with ff.net but is it doing this to everyone or just at random? Weird.

RL UPDATE:

In other news, a brief real life update. Had a lovely family holiday celebration at our youngest daughters house in Manistee, with all four kids and their families the weekend before Christmas. Grandkids were cuddled, gifts were exchanged, games were played, much food was enjoyed and a good time was had by all. The biggest surprise gift was from oldest daughter: she and hubby gave us a card, after we read it there was a flap taped on that said open this for surprise (which I thought was a gift card...hey it was about that size) but it was much better, because under it was an ultrasound picture. Yup! Grandchild #5 is on the way, due in mid July. This will be #2 for that daughter...our family is growing.

Then hubby and I had a quiet Christmas day the next week with just the two of us. One son came out for gifts and dinner. (he is the only who is single and he still lives nearby).

New Years Eve and day were also quiet time as well which is fine with us, we aren't really big partiers. Movies and reading for me and football games for hubby.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and are looking forward to the coming year!

A HUGE THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] rayvyn2k for the gorgeous fic she wrote for me at the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest, titled To Have or Have Not.

Title: To Have or Have Not (The Severus & Hermione Version)
Pairing: Severus/Hermione, Lucius/Narcissa
Rating: PG
Word Count: 12K
Content: Elements of Noir. Off page torture. Off page death of OC family. Gruesome death of someone who deserves it. No other warnings apply.
Summary: Severus has left the Wizarding world and is living quietly as a Muggle boat captain in Dover, UK. He uses his boat to take tourists to Calais until Unspeakable Hermione shows up to ask a favor.
Author's Note: Prompt #5: After the war Severus survived he dropped out of the wizarding world. Several years later Hermione unexpectedly meets him again. Where do they meet, and what are they doing now? I'd like to see Severus doing something other than Potions or teaching, could be a related field or something completely different.
madeleone, your statement that Severus and Hermione are your "Bogey and Bacall" really struck a chord with me. When I received my assignment, I knew I had to find a way to work our heroes into one of B & B's movies. And which better than the one that started the real Bogey and Bacall romance?

I was totally blown away by this awesome fic. I had never seen the movie, but reading the Severus/Hermione version led me to seek it out as a Christmas gift for myself. Can't wait to watch it!
madeleone: (Default)
OMG, OMH, OMG!!! Christmas has come early for me. My gift was posted today and it is brilliant!

When filling out the sign up form for giftfest one of the questions was: What you love about the SSHG pairing---and I said: I love the age difference, they are my Bogey and Bacall. My lovely Mystery Author took this idea and one of my prompts and ran with it, creating a story based on B&B's very first move together: 'To Have and Have Not'. So rush over to the [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest and read "To Have or Have Not" and leave my MA some love. :)
madeleone: (Default)
The [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest started posting today with two fabulous fics. I am so looking forward to having of fresh new bunch SS/HG goodness to read and savor.

I went back and re-read my own offering since it's been a couple of weeks since I sent it off to the lovely mods and wouldn't you know, I founds several typo's, etc. Nothing huge, an extra space here and there, a missed comma or apostrophe, a couple of misspelled words. Still, why is it you can go over something a dozen times and it looks fine. But when you go back later you still find all these little mistakes? I'm beginning to think when you close the file the fic itself rearranges things just to trick you. It's the only explanation. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

On a personal note,Read more... )

I couldn't join last year because the writing time was right in the middle of our 4 week trip to Scotland and Ireland. But I'm free this year and have signed up. I'm a little nervous because I really haven't written much since the LBB of last year, but I'm hoping for inspiration. In the past, I've always seemed to do better writing to a prompt. Wish me luck!
