“Oh, no. Here she comes.”
“And she looks really angry.”
“Damn, Severus, protect me.”
“Protect you? Hell, you should protect me. She'll hex me, you know she will.” He stood behind her chair keeping his hands on her shoulders in a sign of support.
“Hermione, Severus.” She nodded at both of them.
“Hello, Molly, what brings you here tonight?” asked Severus softly.
Her lips were drawn in a tight line. “Harry tells me you two are getting married.”
“Yes, that's true,” replied Hermione.
A slight sob escaped. “And you weren't planning to invite us?” Her eyes glittered with unshed tears.
**************
Hermione was for once in her life was at a loss for words. “Molly, I... I thought after Ron and I... I thought you hated me now.”
“Oh, sweetheart, no of course I don't hate you. How could I? I was disappointed at first, I'll admit I always thought you'd officially join our family some day. But after giving it some thought I realized that you and my Ronald really just don't fit very well. Honestly, you and Severus are a much better match.”
Severus and Hermione looked at each other, this certainly is not what they were expecting to hear.
**************
“I brought something for you. I know that some muggle wedding traditions are similar to ours. Arthur told me, dear. You know...'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue'.”
“What is it Molly?”
Molly placed a velvet drawstring pouch in Hermione's hand.
“They belonged to my great Aunt Eliza Prewett.”
Hermione carefully opened the pouch and gasped as a beautiful sapphire pendant and matching earrings tumbled out onto the table. The jewels were pear shaped, perfect stones, surrounded by tiny diamonds.
“Did you know that sapphires symbolize sincerity and faithfulness. I thought it would be appropriate for your wedding day.”
*****************
“They're beautiful. They can be my something borrowed.”
“Oh, no Dear. They are yours, a gift from me to you. I thought they could be your something blue.”
“Molly... I can't accept these. They should go to Ginny.”
“I have other special things saved for Ginny. I wanted you to have these Hermione; I picked them out just for you a very long time ago, I‘ve been saving them. Sapphires' your birthstone after all, so they’re perfect for you.”
“Molly, no, they’re a family heirloom.”
“Sweetheart. You're not marrying my son, but you will always be part of my family.”
