Basically you buy Bingo cards by donating a gift, I think last year it was 1 card per small gift and 5 per large gift. Your donated gift could be a drabble (small gift) a bit of a longer story (large gift), it could be art, banners, icons, or it could be something totally not fandom related. Last year I got a fic from Aurette: Whom the Goddess Chooses(it was supposed to be a drabble) but she emailed me after getting my prompt and said I have a great idea for this prompt but I have such a hard time keeping things short would it be all right if it ends up longer than a drabble? I was like... duh? Yea, go for it. Lucky, lucky me! Plus I also got a beautiful handmade patchwork pillow from mollyssister.(http://madeleone.livejournal.com/tag/bingo%20prize )I think some people donated homebaked cookies, fudge, craft items,all kinds of things.
Anyway after you donate they e-mail you your cards with the names of the giftees, then as each story is posted for that person and you review it, you can then mark that off your card (you MUST review, and then you can copy and paste the link in that square on your card.) If you get a S or an H you get a large prize which you may choose off the list. If you get a straight line and maybe 4 corners (but I'm not sure of that one, check the rules) then you get a small prize.
