A New Years rec for an old favorite
Jan. 1st, 2015 02:49 pmHappy New Year to everyone on my flist! I hope your 2014 was good and wish you a spectacular 2015.
With all the kiddies grown and gone my New Years Eves are spent quietly at home which is fine by me. I was never a big party animal anyway. We used to stay home and have snacks and a game night with our kids and their friends and a good friend of Mr. M's, but as I said they are all grown and on their own and our friend L is recovering at home from a hospital stay. Mr. M didn't even realize it was NYE until I said something about it mid-afternoon. LOL!
Anyway I spent the day re-reading an old fave. It's not my usual pairing, there's not a dark snarky git or haughty blond pureblood in sight. The pairing is Hermione/Charlie and I think it was the first ever I had read of this pairing. It was posted on LJ some time ago in 2008 (although I think I didn't discover it until the following year, as I was fairly new to the HP fandom then and just coming out of my Dramione phaze and entering my Snape-mania period--which I never left!) ;) It's a wonderful feel good tale. There aren't any evil wizards to fight, or dramatic battles, but it is full of lovely scenes of everyday life between our pair. It's a tale of friendship morphing into romance and romance into love, of dealing with family conflicts, and past relationships. There's humor, drama, angst, hurt-comfort, friendship, romance, and even smut.
The work: Leap of Faith is a collaboration between two of my favorite ever authors and friends:
bambu345 and
talesofsnape It has occured to me though, that there are many newer fangirls on my flist who may not have ever heard of it. As far as I can tell it is not posted to any of the usual archives, so it is rather hard to find if you aren't actively seeking it out. The fic can be found on a special LJ set up to post it,
bambu_tales and by clicking on the table of contents on the side bar it will bring you to Leap of Faith along with various artwork and and a couple of follow-up things in the same universe. (Note that there is one follow-up: A Litttle Victory, on the top of the home page of
bambu_tales that didn't make it to the table of contents page).
I was hoping I could also find it archived somewhere that would make it easy to download to calibre and convert to an EPUB file, so I can read it on my e-reader, so if either of you lovely ladies reads this, let me know. (I tried the grab my books feature in firefox, which took me forever it seemed, but somehow in the end there were several posts that didn't show up in the final book at all. :( So short of copy and paste for each chapter--and I may resort to that if I must--I can't see any other way to get it to my e-reader).
