Wow! I am finally recovering from a busy weekend. Now I know what my dear departed mother-in-law meant when she used to say of our family visits,"I'm so happy to have you come and just as glad to see you go." :)

All four of my kids, along with spouses and grandkids came for the weekend. We had lamented back in Feb that we don't get to see the grandkids enough and daughter-in-law, M, said we should plan a family get-together. She said something to my daughter K, who is the organizer. She immediately  passed the word and got everyone to agree on a date and hence it was organized. (my nickname for the weekend which seems to have stuck is the FFF weekend or Forced Family Fun weekend). In other words Mom says you're going to show up and have fun whether you want to or not, damn it!

To start the weekend off right, on Thursday I got picture message from my son-in-law C. With some kind of letter, but it was too hard to read on my phone, so I had to call him up to say, "Is that what I think it is?" "Yup!" It was the results from his bar exam which he took back in Feb and has been anxiously awaiting. "Passed! Now we really have something to celebrate this weekend!"  They came in that night before everyone else and we took them out to our family's favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner. Then Friday during the day, daughter J  went with me to buy supplies for the weekend, and we also bought about ten flats of flowers and plants and she and C helped to plant them and spread about 16 bags of mulch over all the flower beds, it looks fabulous!

Friday night oldest son B and his wife M and two kids arrived, (Baby McK is getting so big and Th is so cute and says the funniest things!)  soon followed by daughter K and hubby B and their dog Austin. They all sat around gabbing and drinking, playing board games and later the guys poker. Nonnie (me) just sat back and enjoyed the fact that all her kids have grown up well and actually get along with each other. I remember when I never thought my two girls (four years apart) would ever be friends. They used to constantly fight and bicker over the absolutely stupidest things!.:)

Saturday we slept late, except poor M who had gone to bed early knowing that the two kids would be up early too. Then the last wayward child showed up my son T. The boys all helped hubby cut down and haul some trees that had fallen over the winter, while the girls took the grandkids, (Th mostly) on a promised  trip to Chuckie Cheese for fun and games. By the time we got home the boys had chopped up the trees and stacked the wood out by the firepit. Then while grampa took a nap all the brothers-in-law went into town to play a round of disc-golf and were back and already embroiled in another game of poker by the time we got home.

We cooked one of our favorite 'camping meals' of hobo dinners out at the fire-pit. For all you non-campers, these consist of stew meat (Or ground beef works too) potatoes, onions and a variety of chopped veggies, like carrots, corn, green beans. various seasonings, etc. Everyone fixes their own so they get exactly what they want, seasoned how they want. Wrapped tightly in foil, once the fire has burned down to hot coals, the foil dinner packets are thrown on the coals and cooked on both sides. I don't know why, but all my kids love them and insist on having them at least once when we go camping. The rest of the evening was spent around the fire, cooking marshmallows and s'mores and telling stories and playing silly games.

Sunday came and everyone was tuckered out, but all agree it was a great weekend. We cooked burgers and hotdogs on the grill and the kids left one family at a time. By the time everyone was gone hubby and I agreed we were glad they came but exhausted. Now I know what granny D meant by being happy to see us go! LOL!

EEP! You were about half way to a Weasley weekend! I've never heard of doing food like your hobo dinners, but then our camping included a calor gas stove with two rings and a grill. We'd have been chucked out if we tried building an actual fire at any of the sites we used to go to. It sounds like a lot of fun, though. Now you just need a week off to recover from the weekend.

Hooray for your fabulous family weekend. These days, it's so hard to gather the gang together, especially when they live in different cities and schedules are chock full of everyday tedium. Lots of work, but worth every effort. :D
