My LJ is normally more for fanfic stuff so as this is of a more personal nature I'm putting it under a cut, feel free to skip it.

Earlier this year we got the heartbreaking news that our nephew's baby, Luke, only a couple months old at the time had been diagnosed with leukemia. After six months, almost all of it spent in the hospital, after several rounds of chemo, and lots and lots of ups and downs... he's finally in remission. Hallelujah!!

Doug and Vicki and little Luke have been through hell already, but this doesn't mean their battle is over. Now they are looking at a bone marrow transplant as a his best chance of keeping the leukemia at bay. The have a found a perfect match from the donor lists at U of M and plan to schedule the procedure very soon.  Although I am normally not one to ask my LJ friends for more than that, you can imagine the expenses occurred in this ordeal. Vicki has set up a fund raising site through Give Forward: https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/t775/warrior-luke-s-bone-marrow-transplant?utm_source=giveforward&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=dashboard&shareid=2502722 (there is a widget that was supposed to post the page here, but damned if I can get it to work, so here is the link)   If anyone feels they would like to donate any amount at all, please accept my heartfelt appreciation. And please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, little Luke still has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

I found this article about what makes Kickstarter campaigns successful. I think Luke's parents need to make a VIDEO of him in, telling his story from diagnosis to current treatment. Maybe include a couple of doctors and nurses talking about Luke in the hospital. Homemade-looking video would be very good - a personal touch - as if they are telling friends about Luke. And a Facebook presence would help, too - Luke can have hi own Facebook page. Then all your friends on Facebook can "share" the page and get more publicity.
