I love reviews but....

Is very confused by reviewer who reads a story which is clearly labeled Hermione G. & Severus S. then leaves comments such as:
I'm not impressed this was Snape - I honestly was expecting Remus
????Why on earth would you expect Remus when it's HG/SS???
I might just run to the bathroom to throw up at the thought of Severus naked
????Then why the hell are you reading HG/SS????
I'm still weirded out by his presence in this story, by the by.
????Why would you be weirded out... it's a HG/SS story????
Then on the last chapter she says:
Very nice story, I quite enjoyed it.
But then feels compelled to add:
You should be impressed that I stayed on to finish it despite the whole thing being about Snape and Hermione - I've never been a fan of Snape
AAARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!
I have only posted snippets of her comments here, but upon reading some of the wording of her comments, I am thinking that she is very young.
But still, if you don't like Snape and don't want to imagine him and Hermione together then for gods sake don't read stories labeled HG/SS!

Date: 2011-05-24 12:03 am (UTC)I really don't know why people do that. You know, after all the warnings on "I Want That One", I still had someone flame me after chapter 2, saying, "I'm sorry, but this is just too disturbing for me. I thought this would be like 'Princess of Gryffindor', but I'm through. This story is just too upsetting"
You don't say what you'd really like to say (I'm still trying to figure out WHAT to say to such blatant stupidity), but yes, you do want to say, if you don't like it, then why the F*&^ are you continuing to read it?
Obviously I shouldn't get started, because it does make me crazy. I don't like Snarry, I don't like SNupin, I don't like dramione. So, ergo, I don't read them. What would be the point of me reading them to review them by saying, "I hate this pairing and the thought of Harry giving one to Snape makes me want to throw up in the bushes?"
GRRRR. Hang in there. Maybe she will dream of our dear professor tonight, and he'll show her exactly why we love to read about him naked! You will have created a convert! Think of writing as a public service. ;)

Date: 2011-05-24 12:59 am (UTC)It is strange that they would read a fic that's clearly posted as being HG/SS if they don't support that pairing - or in the case of that one reviewer, seem to like Severus in general. :(

Date: 2011-05-24 01:13 am (UTC)Like I said upon re-reading her comments, just the way some things are worded, I really think she is probably quite young.(teenager, maybe) It just made me wonder why she would bother to comment at all, or read it at all if she didn't like one of the main characters to begin with.

Let it roll like water off your back. Totally that reviewer's bad.

Date: 2011-05-24 03:26 pm (UTC)I've resolved to take Mia's spin and tell myself that even though she doesn't like Severus (and there's just something intrinsically wrong with that statement, IMO) she read the story anyway, and liked it in the end (sort of). ;-)

Date: 2011-05-24 06:16 am (UTC)Oh, and I agree with Mia; in a way, this is high praise. The sort of praise that's hard to take for the author, especially when preceded by whining about the pairing and Snape throughout reviews, but still, something about your story kept her reading, and reading, and reading, so... Definitely a positive thing.
But yeah. I know I'm missing a huge amount of brilliant, awesome fic out there, but I just don't like any other pairings, so I don't read them. Seems rather simple.

Date: 2011-05-24 03:46 pm (UTC)Now I'm the first person to admit that back in my early days of reading fanfic when I first stumbled across SS/HG I was somewhat freaked (like: What? Hermione with Snape... but he's so old and he's her teacher and, and, and...) But I went ahead and read a couple anyway and liked them. And I could even understand someone commenting with something like: I didn't think I would like this pairing but in the end I did. But to keep commenting saying how weird it is to put this pair together and thinking of him naked makes you sick, etc. just seems a bit off the the wall to me.
I do read a few other pairings, Dramione was the first pairing I read outside of canon and I still read on occasion, I've come around to Lumione as well (there's just something about those Slytherins, and redeemed Death Eaters). But If I really disliked a character (like Siruis)I just wouldn't read a pairing with him in it.

Date: 2011-05-24 06:27 am (UTC)I know sometimes I miss stuff because I go straight to the fic when I get an email from OWL. Maybe it's something like that, but you sort of wonder how you would be on her email preferences in the first place given you write almost exclusively SSHG...

Stupid people are stupid. But you obviously beguiled her in spite of herself.

Date: 2011-05-24 07:24 pm (UTC)I'm very surprised I liked this story, because I really don't like HP fandom. In fact, I really had a hard time getting through this story. Next time, do you think you think you could write X-men instead?
Of course, that's when you want to send them to www.writeyourowndamnstory.com
